Alvarado is one of the oldest towns in Johnson County. Its townsite was surveyed in 1854, its historical marker says it was named for Alvarado in Mexico, and two railroads arrived in 1881. Today it sits where I-35W crosses US-67, with Fort Worth to the north and Dallas to the northeast.
Alvarado is unusual for a Johnson County town: it is about as close to Dallas as to Fort Worth, because US-67 runs northeast toward Midlothian and Dallas while I-35W runs north to Fort Worth. That gives every Alvarado trip two possible routes, and we compare both before each pickup.
